Scarlett Johansson is taking legal action after an artificial intelligence app called Lisa AI: 90s Yearbook & Avatar used her voice and face in an advertisement without her permission. The actress was outraged when she found out that the 22-second clip, which featured an old clip of her behind-the-scenes filming for “Black Widow”, had been uploaded onto X (formerly Twitter). Although the clip has since been removed, Johansson wants to avenge her good name and is determined to take legal action against the creators of the app. The advertisement featured a group of AI-generated pictures that looked like the star, and a voiceover that sounded very similar to Johansson stated that the app could be used to create images with texts and videos.
Scarlett Johansson has decided to take legal action against Lisa AI: 90s Yearbook & Avatar, an AI app that used the actress’ voice and face in an advertisement without her consent. According to a statement from Johansson’s representatives, the actress is not affiliated with the app. Her lawyer, Kevin Yorn, has confirmed that they will pursue legal action. Other celebrities have also been targeted by AI in similar incidents.
According to a statement made by Johansson’s representatives to Variety, the actress is not endorsing the app “Asteroid City.” Similarly, Tom Hanks took to Instagram in early October to warn his fans about a promotional video for a dental plan that used his likeness without his permission. The 67-year-old actor urged his followers to be cautious of the video and clarified that he has no association with it.
Variety reported that an old clip of Scarlett Johansson during the filming of “Black Widow” was briefly posted on X (previously Twitter) for 22 seconds before it was taken down. The clip has been deleted from the internet since then. In addition, the use of AI and digital recreation is a significant concern among actors who are taking part in the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The Writers Guild of America, who had previously gone on strike for five months until September last year, aimed to prohibit the utilization of AI in writing or revising source material. Recently, President Joe Biden has authorized an executive order that would supervise the advancement of artificial intelligence.

Bruce Reed, the White House Deputy Chief of Staff, revealed that President Biden’s concerns about AI heightened after watching the Tom Cruise-starrer “Mission: Impossible – ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Reckoning Part One” at the age of 80. According to Reed, the movie showed Biden the many ways AI can go wrong. Additionally, the President was alarmed by AI-generated images of him and his dog and a demonstration of voice cloning technology. As a result, he has adopted a more assertive stance on the topic.
