The inhabitants of St. Lucie County, Florida were on the verge of completing a task when a sound caused them to pause.
A faint cry broke the silence and led the officers to a manhole where they discovered a puppy struggling to keep his head above water. The poor creature was homeless and in dire need of help. One of the officers felt like it was meant to be and decided to adopt the pup without any second thoughts.
As the guards were ready to call it a day and finish their shifts, they suddenly heard piercing screams emanating from an usually deserted camp. While some people might have brushed it off, these particular men did not.
One of the authorities who stumbled upon the puppy adrift in a drain was James Gettings. The poor pup was in a pitiable state, feeling frightened, drained and on the verge of surrender. However, with rescuers’ timely intervention, the little animal was able to get out of harm’s way.
The Gettingler family gave the lost dog multiple baths to get rid of his unfamiliar scent and make him smell like a dog once more. They then embarked on a search to locate his family, but their efforts were in vain as they could not find anyone who claimed him. The Gettinglers believed that it was a stroke of destiny that they had crossed paths with the pooch.
He brought the little creature to his place and gave it the moniker “Puddle”. At present, it’s thriving peacefully without any apparent shortcomings.
